ECAP (PRODUCT OF EDILTECO GROUP) FOR SCHOOL BUILDINGS IN IRELAND
Balbriggan is a city, 31 kilometers far from Dublin, with a big population expansion. For this reason, the public educationâs department decided to realize seven new primary schools. For their construction, among other products, the prefinished thermal insulating board ECAP has been chosen.
The Irish public educationâs department recently approved the construction of seven new primary schools in the Balbriggan county. This is an area with a fast population increase, since the nearness with the capital Dublin and which needs the construction of new infrastructures.
Flemington National School is one of the seven new schools which will have 18 big open-space classrooms, multimedia and teachers rooms, which construction has been entrusted to Sammon Contracting, with office in Kilcock in the Kildare county and with offices in London.
The construction works for the new school have to be finished after 20 weeks from their beginning. Seeing that times are very short, Sammon Contracting decided to build the school using prefabricated materials. Both for the structure and for finishing.
And for thermal insulation it has been decided to use the prefinished thermal insulating board ECAP of Edilteco Group.
The projectors - KSN Project Management -, wanting to reach the energetic standards of a âPassive Houseâ, chose Ecap for many reasons, among these the finishing quality, the rapidity of application and the technical-performance characteristics of the board guaranteed during the time.
Ecap is a prefinished thermal insulating board for the realization of external thermal insulation for outdoor and indoor application, designed and built specifically to make application on yard fast and easy, without compromising the insulating characteristics.
The main fields of Ecap application are the external thermal insulation, the internal thermal insulation of wall and ceilings, the thermal insulation of pre-batched buildings, the refurbishing and renovation of façades, the elimination of thermal bridges and the protection of façades from rain.
The board is already prefinished with a layer of smoothing mortar, mesh with prearranged overlaps, punched holes for the insertion of the anchors, and arrangement for grouting between boards. Once that Ecap board has been applied â which application can be executed also with unfavorable weather â it is sufficient to lay a single hand of suitable colored finishing mortar in paste to obtain a perfect âworkmanlikeâ result. The pre-applied smoothing mortar protect the boards, during the work on yard, from weather aggressions and from sun radiation.
The Ecap range of Edilteco Group is composed by Ecap L board, available in several thicknesses from 30 to 200 mm, and with a board made of expanded polystyrene (EPS) class 100, with a dimension of 120 x 60 cm, prefinished with smoothing mortar and alkali-resistant fiberglass mesh 160 gr/m² covered by prearranged overlaps and punched for the fixing anchors which have to be fixed on the support wall. ECAP L100 has a thermal conductivity equal to 0,035 W/mK.
ECAP is also available in the ECAP GT version, a prefinished thermal insulating board made of sinterized expanded polystyrene additivated with graphite (NEOPOR board) able to guarantee a declared thermal conductivity λ at 10°C: 0,031 W/mk (norm EN 12667).
Ecap boards are suitable, if applied with adequate thickness, to reach the thermal insulating performances asked by the local rules and regulations.
To complete the Ecap L and Ecap GT systems, Edilteco Group designed the Ecap Range, a division of complementary products composed of gluing, fixatives, finishing and smoothing plasters.
